The Friends of Lake Sylvia was formed as a response to a proposed closure of Lake Sylvia State Park in the Spring of 2009. Thirteen State Parks were on the closure list due to extreme budget pressure facing the Legislature, including Lake Sylvia and neighboring Schafer State Park.  A grassroots group of concerned citizens gathered over ten thousand petition signatures in a few short weeks,  easing the pressure on both Parks. 

    The goal of the FOLS is to provide economic and physical security for Lake Sylvia State Park into the future, through fund raising events, donations, bequests, and volunteer services.  With the combined effort of the community we hope to secure a place for generations to enjoy.
